Cryotherapy

Description

Local cryotherapy is one of the physical therapy procedures during which the temperature of the treated tissue is lowered by means of carbon dioxide and liquid nitrogen vapors in order to achieve congestion of the deep structures in the cryotherapy area. In addition, local cryotherapy has an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antiedematous effect. It is mainly used in early osteoarticular trauma and soft tissue injuries.

The main indications for topical cryotherapy are:

- arthritis
- periarticular inflammations of tendons
- rheumatic diseases of soft tissues
- post-traumatic conditions
- sprains
- Post-traumatic joint contractures
- acute pain of various origins
- increased muscle tension
- chronic degenerative joint diseases
- multiple sclerosis
